Now then, in the wintertime it makes sense to work in a heated auto service business. It gets cold in the winter time, and it’s difficult to do a good job when you’re cold, and many of the types of jobs that people do in the auto sector require a proper ambient temperature. Take auto detailing for instance. If it’s too cold there is moisture on the car and the humidity is incorrect, the wax doesn’t work right, and neither does the window cleaner or the rubber dressing. This is why you need to have the right temperature. However, when working during the wintertime I have some advice for you and I’d like to discuss this for a moment if I might.

You see, if the heat is turned up much more than 70-degrees, what you’ll find is that the labor and the workers get tired, they get fatigued, they start slowing down, and that hurts their productivity level. Secondly depending on how you are heating your facility, and I know most automobiles shops at least in the New England states often use used waste motor oil to heat the furnaces, that’s fine, but it is also change the air content slightly, and it will reflect in your work, especially in an auto detail shop.

Needless to say, being too cold, or having too much moisture in the air, or even a big gap in the normal barometric pressure does make a difference. In fact, it’s almost as bad as if there is wind blowing into the shop, swirling around dust while you’re trying to work on the car. If you want a perfect detail job, and present your customers with a car which is in showroom condition. And if you’re in the auto detailing sector you know what I’m talking about, because quite often that’s what customers say to you when you are completed with their automobile.

If that is the level of quality which you demand, and you enjoy as part of the reputation of your personal brand name, and your local brand-name, and if you truly want the best referrals, you must pay attention to every single detail including the atmospheric environment in which you are detailing the cars.

Am I suggesting to you that you build a clean room where you’re going to bring dirty automobiles inside and make them perfect? No, I’m not suggesting that you go that far and wear little aprons and dress up like space aliens while detailing cars, but I am suggesting to you that you need to think like that, you need to think like a project manager operating a team in a clean room when you go about your business in the wintertime.

That is if you want the best results, and the best quality in your entire region up and above the competition. Indeed I hope you please will consider this and think on it.
